Santa Rosa de Lima de Abiquiú, Abiquiú, New Mexico
Built 1734 by Españoles
Santa Rosa de Lima de Abiquiú ruins can be viewed from a pullout a few miles south of Abiquiú. The site provided a way station for travelers along the Old Spanish Trail in the 1800s. It is privately owned by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.
There are gallon jugs of water all around the monument with hearts and words on the jugs – “please water the roses if they are dry.” A photo showing the jugs is in the highlight reel. Travels this day took me by Ghost Ranch and the Echo Ampitheater in Carson National Forest. Photos below.
